WHO CAN APPLY
We support young musicians across the UK who show talent, commitment and potential – but face barriers to accessing opportunities.
YOU CAN APPLY IF:
Age
- You are aged 8–17
- You must be age 17 or under on 1st September of the programme year
Location
- You have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
- You are currently living in the UK
Household incomeYou are aged 8–17
- Your total household income is £39,000 per year or under
- You may still be considered if your income is slightly above this due to exceptional circumstances, such as disability-related benefits.
Musical ability
- You play a primary instrument (or voice)
- You show strong potential and commitment
- You are already learning and progressing (at any stage beyond beginner level)
- You do not need formal music exams to apply
What we mean by “financial need”
Future Talent is a means-tested programme. This means we prioritise support for young musicians whose families would otherwise struggle to afford:
- Lessons
- Instruments and equipment
- Travel to opportunities
- Exams and courses
We ask for detailed financial information in the second stage of the application process to ensure support goes to those who need it most.
You may not be eligible if:
- Your household income is significantly above £39,000 without exceptional circumstances
- You are not currently learning an instrument or developing your music
- You are over 18
- You have not lived in the UK for at least 3 years
We understand every situation is different
If your household income is slightly above this level but you have additional circumstances (for example disability-related costs), your application may still be considered.
