Applications for our 2023/24 Programmes are open from 14 February-11 April 2023.
Our Junior and Development Programmes support young musicians from low-income backgrounds across the UK with development opportunities such as workshops, masterclasses and performances, and financial assistance towards musical costs.
From Tuesday 14 February until 11 April 2023, parents and guardians can apply for support for the 2023/24 academic year.
Who Can Apply?
If you are a musician under 18 in need of support – or the parent or guardian of one – you should apply!
In order to be eligible for support from one of Future Talent’s programmes, young musicians must be permanently resident in the UK, must be under 18 years of age on 1 September 2023, and must be from households with a combined income of no more than £32,500*.
*Extenuating circumstances are considered when household income is over £32,500 – for example, if the young musician’s parent(s) or guardian is unable to work due to illness, disability, or providing care for a family member.
The application form must be completed by a parent or guardian.
Which Programme Should I Apply For?
Our Junior Programme supports younger musicians at an earlier point in their musical journey, while our Development Programme provides support to more advanced musicians. The Junior Programme is designed to be a pathway towards eventual support on the Development Programme.
Development Programme musicians are required to audition.
All applicants will be considered for both programmes, so you don't need to worry at all about which one you apply for.
Changes to the Application Process
This year, in an effort to improve and increase access to our support, we have made a number of adjustments to our applications process:
In response to feedback from our young musicians’ parents and conversations with various musical bodies, we have moved our applications period to take place earlier in the year. We believe this will maximize our reach to the musicians who need our support, through our network of music education hubs, schools and other organisations.
We have streamlined the application process so that financial information and documentation will only be required later in the application process, and only from shortlisted applicants, making the application less time-consuming overall.
Finally, our application form is now more accessible than ever. Available in both online and offline formats, with support provided via email and phone, the form will also be available in both English and Welsh language.
Applications will open at 1200 noon on 14 February and remain open until 11 April 2023.
